Scoop: Fox to Launch Celeb-Themed, Voice-esque Dating Show The Choice

This just in: The Voice and The Bachelor are having a baby, and they’re giving it away to Fox!

The network that brought you Joe Millionaire and The Swan has announced plans to launch The Choice, a new Cat Deeley-hosted six-episode reality series that combines elements of NBC’s hit singing competition (spinning chairs included) and ABC’s long-running dating romp.

Set to premiere on Thursday, June 7, The Choice features the “world’s most eligible celebrities” competing to find true love among a group of sexy (and non-famous) singles… that they can’t see.

Here’s how the program works:

* Each episode begins with a “Blind Round” in which four (presumably B- or C- or D-list) bachelors — to be announced at a later date — sit in rotating chairs a la The Voice, only able to hear the voices of the “sexy singles” behind them. When the celeb likes what he hears, he pulls his “love handle,” spinning his chair around to bring him face-to-face for the first time with his potential mate. If more than one celebrity pulls the handle, they must battle it out for her affection until the bachelorette makes her choice.

* Once each bachelor has selected their potential dates, the teams enter the “Speed Choice” round, where each woman has only seconds to convince her leading man to sweep her off her feet to the final round.

* In the final round, Deeley (who will juggle The Choice with her regular So You Think You Can Dance duties) poses a challenge question to each of the team’s final two. The celebrities must then choose between each of their two remaining eligible ladies, whisking one away on a dream date and leaving one in no man’s land.

Five of the six episodes will feature male celebs/female contestants and one will feature female celebs/male contestants.

Fox reality guru Mike Darnell tells TVLine that the celebs lined up represent “a good mix of sports stars, music stars, TV stars, reality stars,” adding that they all must be “successful, famous, very attractive and single.”

Thoughts? Does this sound so bad it’s bound to be brilliant, or so bad it’ll probably be cancelled after a week? Watch a teaser here:
