Child star fun fact: Blossom still nurses her 3-year-old son. Here's why...

Remember Blossom? She doesn't wear those flower hats anymore. She's also a mom of two with some serious opinion-ations on breastfeeding.

"I believe in child-led weaning," writes former child star Mayim Bialik on her motherhood blog at kveller.com. At 3-years-old, her son Fred still relies on his mother's milk.

Considering Bialik potty-trained both her sons at age one, she's surprisingly patient when it comes to feeding. But before you write her off as just another kooky adult child star, Mayim has some chops in the mommy department. She's the spokesperson for holistic moms network, and before that, she earned her Ph.D in neuroscience. Her dissertation was on Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare genetic disorder associated with an insatiable appetite in children.
So she's probably given some concrete thought to her prolonged nursing decision. Here's how she sees it:
"I never ever believed that I would be nursing a child over the age of 3. But now that I am, I believe when he is done, he will be done. I believe that he will not need to nurse before he walks down the aisle to greet his bride under the chuppah, and I believe that nursing is natural and beautiful and wonderful. I believe in being conscious of where I nurse my toddler and I also believe that there is nothing wrong with nursing Fred."
That's not to say it's been easy. As Fred began eating solid foods, and Mayim's milk production waned, she stopped pumping and started 'day-weaning' Fred so he only needed to nurse at night. That's somewhat of a relief, but after three years, she still wakes up multiple times at night to breast-feed.
"This is not a linear process," writes the sitcom star who's now known to a new generation as the girl on "The Big Bang Theory." "There are weeks when Fred asks to nurse in the middle of the day, and days when he takes a big fall and cuddles up next to me as he sobs, gazing at my breast and then at me, silently asking if it's okay."

It's usually okay with Mayim, even if she's on a crowded subway car (see proof above). But this scenario could get weird in a few years, at least for her fellow straphangers. So when is the cut off date? When, in your opinion-ation, is a child too old for breast-feeding?
