Could Khloe and Lamar be k-k-kancelled?
Just one week ago it was announced that the Kardashian family had inked a new, three-year deal with E! to continue their flagship series "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" through Season 9. The entire family was covered in the agreement, which would pay them a reported $40 million, and it included spin-off shows as well as potential new projects. So it's a huge surprise to hear the news today that Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom's series, "Khloe and Lamar," is going on hiatus.
Of course, it's been a wild four months for the couple. In December, NBA star Odom, 32, was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers, the team had had played for over the last seven years, to the Dallas Mavericks. Once there, he never really gelled with the team and took a leave of absence to spend time with his gravely ill father, who later said he wasn't that sick and had only been suffering from the flu. After lots of speculation, the champion Mavericks announced earlier this month that they worked out a deal to part ways with Odom, placing the one-time basketball superstar on the inactive list for the remainder of the season.
According to Us Weekly, "Khloe has pulled the plug" on the show, which aired for two seasons and focused on the relationship between the couple who married in 2009. Odom is trying to reignite his hoops career, so they decided "he should train all off season. Meanwhile, "she's exhausted from filming!" a source tells the magazine. "They just want to go on their honeymoon and take a breather."
It's also possible that Khloe, 27, needs a break from a topic that has frequently been visited on "Khloe and Lamar": their fertility issues. Although Odom has two children from a past relationship, the couple has wanted to have kids of their own and it's been an issue Khloe has been forthcoming about. Last October, during an appearance on the "Today" show, she admitted that trying to get pregnant has been "so hard." And on the series viewers saw her get frustrated, saying, "No matter where I turn, everyone asks me when can they expect a baby, and now Lamar's grandmother. No pressure whatsoever."
As far as whether this hiatus for "Khloe and Lamar" is a permanent one, it is unclear. "It has NOT been cancelled," a rep for Khloe tells People. "It's just on hold now while schedules are figured out. It will depend on their schedules, as Lamar's basketball schedule is a priority." It's also a big paycheck for the couple — he earns $8.9 million a year.
Although their show has been halted, both Khloe and Odom are still expected to appear on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." And don't worry about Khloe — whose mother, Kris, is the mastermind behind the family's savvy business deal — losing out on any money. It's likely that instead of her spin-off with her husband, she'll simply appear in another show with either Kim, 31, or mom-to-be Kourtney. She could also appear in the sisters' spin-off "Kourtney and Kim Take New York."
Khloe, who is usually very vocal on Twitter and on her own blog, has yet to speak on the topic. But seeing as the Season 7 premiere of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" is May 20, she's likely gearing up for a big publicity tour, so she won't be able to avoid the topic for very long.
