Beyonce’s ‘Love On Top’ Turned Into Mother’s Day Tribute

Beyonce’s ‘Love On Top’ Turned Into Mother’s Day Tribute

New mom Beyonce now has her own tribute song for her first Mother's Day this Sunday. In January, Beyonce and husband Jay-Z welcomed their first child, daughter Blue Ivy. Up-and-coming girl group, The Gurlie Gurlz, changed a few lyrics in the pop star's hit "Love On Top" to turn it into a song celebrating moms.

Beyonce performed the song last fall at the Video Music Awards when she announced her pregnancy. After performing "Love On Top," she stood center stage, posed, unbuttoned her jacket and rubbed her stomach.

At the time, I didn't see the correlation between the song and motherhood, but I get it now after watching the music video interpretation from the quartet of 10-year-olds from California's Santa Clarita and Riverside.

See how adding "Mommy" in a couple places completely changes "Love On Top" from a romantic ballad to loving ode to moms: "Mommy, it's you. You're the one I love. You're the one I need. The only one I see. Thanks Mommy, it's you. You're the one that gives your all. You're the one I can always call. When I need to make everything stop. You always put my love on top."

I might have to use this on my own mom this Sunday.

The Gurlie Gurlz, who have received more than 150,000 YouTube plays of their covers of songs by Adele, En Vogue and Taylor Swift, have been featured on "Today." (See "Today" feature at 10:30 mark.) They will perform on Los Angele's KTLA morning show on Mother's Day.

The group includes Imai Knox, daughter of Shanice Wilson and Flex Alexander, her cousin Kennedy Stephens and friends, twins, Shelbi and Sydney Schauble.
