Justin Bieber joins Lakers radio broadcast, shows off 2005-era pop culture awareness (AUDIO)

Justin Bieber took a break from Kiss Cam canoodling with girlfriend Selena Gomez and grabbin' some 'chos to sit in on 710 ESPN's radio broadcast of Tuesday night's game between the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers. The singing sensation behind such hits as "Baby" and, um, "Baby?" joined play-by-play man John Ireland and color commentator Mychal Thompson during the second quarter of the Spurs' 112-91 victory, calling a Pau Gasol jump shot. Behold:

That, friends, was a reference to "Boom Goes the Dynamite," which is a thing that happened in 2005, when Justin Bieber was 21 days removed from his 11th birthday. Don't ever let anyone tell you that Internet jokes don't have a long shelf life.

According to Larry Brown of Larry Brown Sports fame, Bieber referenced the '05 meme multiple times during his three-minute radio stint, in which he "started off in an analyst role, but [...] was so eager to call the game he took over play-by-play duties after a few seconds." After a Gasol block, Bieber also reportedly told a member of the Spurs to "get out of his face."

Asked to comment on Bieber's performance behind the mic, two-time NBA champion Thompson said the singer did "smashing, baby" and "niiiice, like 'Borat,' remember?"

In conclusion, I'd like to formally request a Bieber feature on Stephen Jackson's next single. Thank you for your consideration of my request, all parties involved.
