Oct. 17: Alan Jackson’s Tennessee mansion, houseboat and helipad

Country singer Alan Jackson, born on this date in 1958, managed to unload his
lakefront home in Smithville, Tennessee, just in time for his birthday last year: The deal closed on Oct. 5, 2012, for $3,621,200. That might sound like a lot of money -- well, OK, it is a lot of money -- but Jackson had originally sought $5 million for it.

He built the home 20 years earlier as a vacation property, the Wall Street Journal reported last year. Perhaps the property's most unique feature: a two-story houseboat equipped with waterslides and a hot tub. (Curbed called the property "just about the most decked-out summer party palace in the South" before learning that the property was Jackson's.) The helipad atop the garage would probably be runner-up.

The property also included a five-bedroom "Hamptons-style" main house, a four-bedroom guesthouse and a one-bedroom cabin on 3.5 wooded acres.

By the way, it's not just Alan Jackson's 55th birthday today; it's also Eminem's 41st birthday -- and you guessed it, we've got a blog post on his house, too.
