Biden knocks Romney camp’s Etch A Sketch comment

Vice President Joe Biden said Friday that Mitt Romney is joined at the hip ideologically with Republican leaders in the unpopular Congress "and not even Romney's Etch A Sketch can change that."

Biden's comments came at a re-election campaign event in Wynmoor Village, a senior citizens community in Coconut Creek, Florida, where he accused Republicans of looking to dismantle Medicare as we know it and slash critical programs in order to safeguard the Bush-era tax cut for the richest Americans.

"There is no daylight between Governor Romney and the Republican leaders on the most important issues facing this country. And not even Romney's Etch A Sketch can change that," Biden said, miming someone shaking the children's toy to start a new drawing.

The vice president's crack, which drew laughter from the crowd of supporters, played off senior Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom's suggestion on Wednesday that the Republican front-runner could reposition himself between the Republican primary and the general election like shaking an Etch A Sketch.

"He's not going to be able to do that," Biden predicted.
