Prince to be immortalised with his own shade of purple

Prince is set to get his own shade of purple, and not a moment too soon.

The music icon became synonymous with the colour since the release of his hit single and album ‘Purple Rain’ in 1984, and now the Pantone Colour Institute has teamed up with the late star’s estate to develop a new shade of the majestic tint in his honour.

The colour purple has been historically associated with royalty, nobility, Lent, Easter and Mardi Gras, and it’s considered bad luck to wear it at weddings in Italy.

And we could all be ‘bathing in Purple Rain‘ when the new ‘distinctive’ shade called Love Symbol #2 – after the star’s famous name change to a symbol in the late 1990s – lights up our retinas.

In a press release, The Pantone Colour Institute said: ‘We are honoured to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince. A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style.

‘Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.’

Elsewhere, a musical based on the works of the ‘Little Red Corvette’ hitmaker – who passed away in April last year at the age of 57 – is also in the works.

Let’s hope it doesn’t go the way of the Spice Girls musical, eh?
