‘American Violence’ Trailer: Denise Richards and Rob Gronkowski in a Death Penalty Drama (Exclusive)

Denise Richards may not have come across as the most credible nuclear physicist in 1999’s James Bond adventure The World Is Not Enough, but she’ll again try her hand at playing an intense intellectual heroine in American Violence, an upcoming drama that seems to be a cross between an underworld action film and 1995’s Dead Man Walking. As its new trailer (watch it above) suggests, that should make for a unique genre hybrid, although even more notable about the release is that it gives us another chance to enjoy the acting skills of superstar New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski after his debut in Entourage.

In director Timothy Woodward Jr.’s drama, Richards is Dr. Amanda Tyler, who sets about interviewing death row inmate Jackson Shea (Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau). Shea is sentenced to die at the hands of the state for what appear to be multiple gangland killings. Tyler wants to understand his underlying motivation for taking so many lives in an effort to possibly save him from execution, and the promo above suggests that Shea does what he does out of necessity as much as desire. Amid much chaos, Bruce Dern will also appear as an ice cream cone-chomping sheriff, and Gronk will get to shoot some guns, adding outlandish color to the gritty proceedings.
