Why Jimmy Kimmel, Evan Peters and Grace VanderWaal Are TV’s Social Media MVPs of the Week
An awards show host, a missing “American Horror Story” star and a very excited young singer got viewers talking passionately on social media over the past week.
The Wrap has partnered with Canvs, a language analytics company that measures emotions around content, for a weekly look at the characters and stars that have TV viewers the most worked up. The data below covers September 13-19 and is drawn from the most emotionally reacted-to broadcast and cable television shows.
Of the 367,295 (Emotional Reactions) ERs surrounding the “Primetime Emmy Awards” Sunday night on ABC, 4 percent were prompted by host Jimmy Kimmel — which may not seem like a lot, but on a base that big, it amounts to 13,083 ERs for Kimmel alone during one of TV’s most celebrity-packed events of the year. And of those Kimmel-prompted ERs, nearly one in two (45 percent) expressed love of some sort.
JIMMY KIMMEL HAS ME DYING OH MY GOD #Emmys

@jimmykimmel great job, too funny!!????????

Of the 172,530 ERs surrounding the first episode of the sixth season of “American Horror Story” — properly known as “American Horror Story: Roanoke” — 7 percent name-checked “AHS” star Evan Peters. Which is rather amazing, because Peters, who is set to appear this season (but has been very mysterious about it), was absent from the first episode, which caused a social media freak-out.

Of the 55,403 ERs surrounding the live final results episode of “America’s Got Talent,” 11.3 percent name-checked winner Grace VanderWaal, and of ERs including a specific Twitter handle, 21.1 percent included @gracevanderwaal.

And then on Sept. 16, VanderWaal posted a short video on Twitter of herself going bonkers over realizing that Taylor Swift sent her congratulatory flowers. And then — OMG! OMG! OMG! — Taylor retweeted Grace’s tweet.
