Strictly Come Dancing 2016: Melvin Odoom defends Anastacia after his controversial exit

Strictly Come Dancing found itself at the centre of a huge storm over the weekend when bosses decided to cancel the dance-off for the first time ever.

As a result, DJ Melvin Odoom was the first act to be eliminated from this year’s series as the result resorted back to who got the most viewer votes between him and US star, Anastacia.

Anastacia was accused of having a “meltdown” backstage after learning that she was in the bottom two, refusing to take part in the dance-off as she was concerned about further injuring herself after she ripped her mastectomy scar during rehearsals earlier in the week.

The show’s decision to keep Anastacia in over Melvin enraged viewers, who claimed that the singer shouldn’t get to be in the competition if she isn’t well enough to compete in the dance-off.

However, Melvin has defended Strictly’s move, insisting that there is no bad blood between himself and the show or Anastacia.

Speaking on Strictly spin-off show ‘It Takes Two’ last night, Melv explained: “It’s no-one’s fault.

“We love Anastacia and we love Brendan [Cole, Anastacia’s professional dance partner] and we wish her the best for a speedy recovery.”

However, Melvin did admit that he was “sad” and disappointed that he didn’t get to show-off his moves in the dance-off, adding: “It was a really sad day over the weekend.

“It’s really sad to be in this position right now, we wanted to go out there and dance like it was our last dance on earth.

“Everyone has been amazing.”

Well, considering Melvin has made his peace with the decision perhaps it is time that all of Strictly’s angry viewers did too…
