The Great British Bake Off: Nadiya Hussain To Replace Mel And Sue?

It’s been a rather dramatic week for fans of The Great British Bake Off, with it being revealed that the BBC had lost the much-loved baking programme to Channel 4, and hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins promptly quitting.

There has since been a whole load of speculation about whether Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood were planning to follow suit, alongside a huge question mark over who the new GBBO host could be.

The newest name to be thrown into the mix is Bake Off’s breakout star, last year’s winner Nadiya Hussain.

According to reports, Nadiya is in talks with Channel 4 about fronting the programme following Mel and Sue’s sensational exit.

Speaking to The Daily Star, a source shared: “Nadiya is a natural choice to get involved in some way. She’s with Love Productions, who make the show, anyway and she made her last programme, Chronicles of Nadiya, with them.

“She is hugely popular, gets great ratings, is a natural in front of the camera and knows the format and the pressures of being a contestant better than anyone.”

And if Mary and Paul refuse to return as the show’s judges then Nadiya may even be given the choice of being either host or judge of the show, with the insider adding: “Nadiya’s got ‘it’. There are already advanced talks about how she could be involved, either as a judge or in some new role.”

Mel, Sue, Mary and Paul have been Bake Off’s staples since the show launched on BBC Two back in 2010, in a join statement Mel and Sue said of their departure: “We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.

“The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 at its peak.

“We’ve had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.

“We’re not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success.”

The Great British Bake Off will be airing on Channel 4 from 2017 on a three-year contract, and we have to admit, we’re incredibly intrigued to see how it all works out.
