How Much Channel 4 Paid For The Great British Bake Off Revealed

In case you somehow missed it, last night it was announced that the BBC had lost the rights to hit baking show The Great British Bake Off, with the Love Productions signing a three-year contract with Channel 4 instead.

We know, we know, we’re still not over it either.

It was no secret that the Beeb lost out because they weren’t offering the production company enough money, although they did insist that they had proposed a “very strong offer” but were still a “considerable distance apart” from what Love Productions expected.

Now the alleged amount that Channel 4 have splurged to nab the programme has been revealed, and it’ll definitely make your eyes water.

According to Business Insider, the BBC were paying the company £6million a series, but Channel 4 have swooped in and offered a huge £75million for three years of the show.

That’s a whopping £25million a series.

It has also been confirmed that both ITV and Netflix put a bid in for the show and that Channel 4 hadn’t even made the highest offer, Love Productions just reckon they’d have the best “creative partnership” with them.

Crikey.

The BBC did reportedly up their offer from £6million but were unable to stretch to £25million a year, understandably.

It is currently unknown whether Bake Off’s current cast of Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc will stick around for the channel turnover, with it being hinted that their loyalties are with the BBC and they are unwilling to make the move.

Only time will tell, we suppose.
