Serena Williams Laughs Off Threat To Sue Wimbledon

Things got a bit heated during Wimbledon yesterday when Serena Williams was heard threatening to sue after the umpire refused to close the Centre Court roof as light rain started to fall.

Serena was playing against Svetlana Kuznetsova and was concerned about slipping in the wet conditions.

With the score 5-5 in the first set, Serena approached umpire Marija Cicak and referee Andrew Jarrett and when they refused to close the roof she was heard saying: “If I get hurt, I’m suing.”

Ooft.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Serena insisted that she only spoke in the heat of the moment as she laughed off the threat.

Speaking to reporters, Serena explained: “You guys, don’t even try me like that.

"I was in the moment, I was on the court, and what I say on the court, whether it’s smashing my rackets, or… it’s in the heat of the moment.

"I have no plans, no future of suing Wimbledon. Like, let’s get serious. That’s not what I do, that’s not what I am, and I’m not answering any more questions about that.”

Phew - we bet that Wimbledon bosses are thrilled that she’s cleared that one up…
