Lockheed And Northrop JV Gets $89 Million Contract For Apache Radar Upgrades

The LONGBOW LLC, which is a joint venture of Lockheed Martin Inc. (NYSE: LMT) and Northrop Grumman Corp (NYSE: NOC), said that it has been granted $89.8 million contract by the American. The company indicated that the contract was to upgrade the Apache attack helicopter's LONGBOW Fire Control Radar (FCR).

The company said FCR offered Apache aircrews with automatic target detection, location, classification and prioritization, enabling rapid, multi-target engagement in all weather, over several terrains, as well as, through battlefield obscurants. The company added that REU replaced two FCR electronics boxes to cut overall system size, weight, maintenance and power needs.

LONGBOW LLC president, Jim Messina, said, "Our top priority is to deliver this new capability as quickly and efficiently as possible to support the Army's fielding requirements. The LONGBOW FCR's REU reduces size, weight and power requirements and increases reliability over the legacy system allowing for better support of Army aviation requirements."

The company indicated the contract included the production of 84 Radar Electronics Units (REUs) and software upgrades. Its Production at Lockheed Martin's Orlando and Ocala facilities and at Northrop Grumman's Baltimore facility was extended until January 2019 under this contract.
