Most expensive house in America dwarfs other listings at $195 million
It's been leased to royal families and international tycoons for about a quarter-million dollars a month, but the Palazzo di Amore in Beverly Hills has finally, officially hit the real estate market.

That's far more than any of the most expensive homes in America that Zillow listed just a month ago. The Owlwood estate in Los Angeles' Holmby Hills is said to be asking $150 million; and the previous (official) record-holder, Le Palais Royal in Florida, wants a mere $139 million. Even billionaire heiress Petra Ecclestone is said to be keeping her Spelling Manor hopes relatively modest at $150 million.
The Palazzo di Amore, or Palace of Love (so named because Greene married his wife there), has more than 53,000 square feet of living space, the listing says:
• 35,000-plus in the main house -- including a 5,000-square-foot master suite that Coldwell Banker says is "truly a home unto itself" (or at least the size of one ... or two).
• A 15,000-square-foot "entertainment complex," with a two-lane bowling alley; a 50-seat theater that "includes a dressing room for live stage shows or movie screenings"; and a discotheque/ballroom with a revolving dance floor, laser lights and a DJ booth.
• A guest house.
The property spans about 25 acres, planted with vineyards that Greene discovered produce "top-of-the-line grapes" from which he makes private-label wine.

Yahoo Homes spoke to listing agents Stacy Gottula and Joyce Rey about the attention-getting price tag. They pointed out that recent blockbuster sales -- Suzanne Saperstein's Fleur de Lys, which recently sold for $102 million in cash; the Spelling Manor, which Ecclestone bought for $85 million and supposedly "will not take a penny less than $102 million" for -- were for much less land.
"This property has triple or five times the acreage of a lot of the sales that have happened," Gottula told us. If there's another property the size of the Palazzo di Amore in the area, "I don't know about it," she said.
We asked whether Rey and Gottula think they have a shot at breaking the residential sale record set by Connecticut's beautiful Copper Beech estate (which has two islands and 4,000 feet of water frontage).
"For sure that's our goal," Gottula answered. "We hope it'll be the highest sale" ever.
Coincidentally (or not), the mansion is being marketed by Coldwell Banker Previews International, whose brokerage made news a couple of months ago with the Versailles-inspired Le Palais Royal listing.
