Car crashes into Indian restaurant

UPDATE: A car smashed through the front wall of a packed restaurant in Nedlands last night, narrowly missing diners.

The Holden Astra struck the front wall and windows of the Maharaja Restaurant at the corner of Stirling Highway and Dalkeith Road about 7.50pm.

A staff member said there were plenty of people in the restaurant, but none sitting at the table hit in the crash.

She said the impact was "pretty intense" and made people scream.

The restaurant was extensively damaged but there were no injuries.

Police said this afternoon that the blue Holden and a silver Toyota Corolla hatchback had collided at the intersection just before the Holden hit the restaurant.

"It is believed the Holden Astra was travelling east on Dalkeith Road when it was struck by the Toyota Corolla that was travelling south on Stirling Highway," a police spokeswoman said.

Police are investigating if the Toyota had run a red light.

A 25-year-old Dalkeith woman who was driving the Holden suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
