You might see an uptick in random TSA searches the next time you go to the airport.

After the tragic massacre of the Charlie Hebdo staff in Paris last week by Islamic terrorists, the Transportation Security Administration is beefing up its efforts at American airports. According to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, the TSA has increased the number of random searches of passengers and carry-on baggage at U.S. airports.

“These are just a few of the aviation security adjustments we have undertaken recently,” Johnson said in a statement. “We will not hesitate to take more when and if necessary, without unduly burdening the traveling public.”

Johnson made it clear that this decision was purely precautionary, stating that they have “no specific, credible intelligence of an attack of the kind in Paris last week being planned by terrorist organizations in this country.”

Furthermore, he encouraged people to go about their daily lives, but clarified the importance of being aware of their surroundings. “We urge Americans to continue to travel, attend public events, and freely associate with others,” said Johnson. “However, given world events, this is a time for heightened vigilance by federal, state, and local governments, critical infrastructure owners ,and operators, as well as the public.”

In the statement, Johnson also said that the Federal Protective Service is enhancing its presence at U.S. government buildings in select cities.
