Bruce Willis sells Beverly Hills hacienda for millions less than asking price

Bruce Willis had to take quite a haircut -- oops, sorry, Bruce, we mean quite a price chop -- off of his original asking price, but he's finally sold his lovely Beverly Hills hacienda.

Willis listed the mansion at $22 million in May 2013, but lowered the price to $20 million in August of last year, then to $18 million in March of this year.

Finally, he's just closed a sale at $16.5 million, we've learned from our friends at Trulia Luxe Living blog.

He still made a pretty penny on the place, though. He paid a mere $9 million for it in 2004, when he bought it from Hollywood producer Alan Ladd Jr. -- son of the actor Alan Ladd, and the person who green-lighted "Star Wars" for George Lucas. (Smart man.)

Willis put a lot of work into the mansion, said Jeff Hyland of Hilton & Hyland listing agency. "He is selling because he no longer needs such a large house."

The hacienda, built in 1938, has more than 10,000 square feet of living space on a lot of not quite an acre. P.G. Wodehouse, author of the Jeeves and Wooster series, lived there when the house was new -- and made the local paper (apparently even then, nobody walked in L.A.):

"In Beverly Hills, he is unique, original, unprecedented -- the city's only pedestrian! His home at 1005 Benedict Canyon is six miles from the M-G-M studio in Culver City, yet when the studio calls him up and asks him to run over for a conference, Wodehouse doesn't run, he walks." (Quoted in David A. Jasen's biography "P.G. Wodehouse: A Portrait of a Master)
