Brittany's Travel Hacks: 5 Insider Tips That Will Change the Way You Travel Forever

1. The best day to book a plane ticket is … after midnight on Monday night or Tuesday morning. Airlines release new deals over the weekend, and by Monday night all of the tickets that weren’t purchased come flooding back to the airlines’ computer system at a discounted rate — just for you.

2. Speaking of airlines, that takes me to the second travel secret, the perfect day to fly. If you’re taking a long weekend, you’ll find cheaper fares if you fly from Saturday to Tuesday, instead of going from Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Monday.

3. Forget your charger at home? No worries … ask the front desk at your hotel. People often leave their phone chargers in the hotel room (guilty!), so the front desk usually has a nice variety of chargers for you to choose from. Hotels —including Kimpton Hotels, which will lend guests a straightening iron or curling iron — also have a slew of other items that people forget.

4. Need cash in a foreign country? Use an ATM machine. ATMs usually have a lower exchange rate than those kiosks in the airport. And to minimize ATM fees, try to do a few large cash withdrawals instead of many small withdrawals.

5. Call the ticket agent. Airlines and hotels choose what deals and rates they put on sites like Orbitz and Priceline, so if you don’t see what you want online, try calling. Agents may have a different inventory. Traditionally, you get more discounts from a phone call than from a website.
