Mark Hamill Reunites With Carrie Fisher, Shows Off Wild and Wookiee 'Star Wars' Beard

The last time we checked in on Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, they were hanging out near an Endor campsite, surrounded by singing and dancing mini-bears, and apparently trying to forget the fact that Luke had just set their dead father’s body ablaze in a bonfire (Return of the Jedi: Weirder and darker than you remember!) But last night, Star Wars stars Mark Hamill, 63, and Carrie Fisher, 57, reunited in Los Angeles at a gala for the Midnight Mission, a homeless-aid charity celebrating its 100th anniversary.

The two actors have been busy lately, of course: Both are reprising their iconic Star Wars roles in director J.J. Abrams’s forthcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, which is currently in production (Harrison Ford is also onboard for the film, despite having suffered an on-set injury this summer). The film takes place 30 years after 1983’s Return of the Jedi, and while Hamill’s facial hair has been slowly building to Obi-Wan-like proportions in recent months, he looked shaggier than a Bantha last night.

Despite several on-set photo leaks in recent weeks from Episode VII — including a few images from Abrams himself — little is known about the new film. Over the summer, Hamill told BBC News that “it’s really about the new generation of characters. We’re just there to lend support, and grow contractually obligated beards.” That new cast includes Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’oAndy Serkis, and Oscar Isaacs. We’ll see how they fare in that galaxy far, far away when Episode VII opens Dec. 18, 2015.
