Tim Burton Takes on 'Big Eyes' Painter Margaret Keane in This Exclusive Trailer

For one of the most successful directors of recent decades, one of Tim Burton’s main preoccupations throughout his career has been the plight of misfit artists, daring to dream outrageously grandiose dreams that confine them to the margins of polite society.

In the past, he filmed a biopic on the life of cult director Ed Wood, and his fictional films have portrayed outrageous characters from Edward Scissorhands to Willie Wonka and Sweeney Todd — all being over-sized artistic personalities.

With his new film, Burton returns to non-fiction, taking on the life of another artist who society didn’t quite know how to handle. Big Eyes recounts life of Margaret Keane, the creator of those iconic portraits of children with the saucer irises — which were commonly labeled “kitsch.”

Amy Adams stars as the painter whose work is perhaps the most universally known of her time. The film also features Christoph Waltz, Krysten Ritter, and Jason Schwartzman.

Big Eyes opens nationwide on Christmas Day, but you can enjoy the trailer above, exclusively here at Yahoo Movies.
