Invisible Heels: They Exist—and I'm Hooked

I’m 5’6” tall, which makes me of exactly average height. A fact that I have no real problem with, except every time I watch Clueless and Cher says – in response to someone offering her coffee – “Duh! It might stunt my growth, I wanna be 5’10” like Cindy Crawford,” I think, ugh I wish I was 5’10” too. I have no desire to be a model, I guess I think maybe I would’ve wanted to be “model-tall.” Since I was a child, I have never been known to reject a cup of coffee though, so maybe I should’ve thought about it back then. It’s ok, I have my priorities.

So when my editor got in touch with me about testing “Invisible Heels” from Say Hello To Longer Legs – little foam inserts that you put in your boot and make you instantly taller happen to help with your posture as well – I of course, said yes. They had been a sleeper hit at the office where a few staffers had suspiciously inserted them into their shoes, but after a few laps around the room, they were sold. “I’m like 5’10” now,” said one staffer who hates wearing high heels. “They make me stand up straighter. My mom would be happy,” said another who blames her bad posture on endless hours hunched over the computer.

I decided Thanksgiving would be a good day to try them out, since I would be on my feet all day, cooking and helping my in-laws get everything ready for dinner time. The inserts are super easy to use. You just put them in your boots and voila! Depending on how tight your boots are, it might be a bit tricky putting your foot into your shoe, since your foot is not laying in it the way the shoe was designed to hold it. In my case, the top of my foot was pushed up against the top of the boot, which felt a little strange at first but I got used to it. The wedge is really comfortable, more comfortable than a flat shoe even, which makes me think that from now on all shoes that I buy must have a 1.5-inch wedge. I felt myself standing slightly straighter, a general result from wearing shoes that aren’t flat to the ground. It’s similar to when you wear heels and your center of gravity changes. You’re slightly more aware of the way you carry yourself. So not only was I feeling taller, but my posture was also better.

I put them on around noon and didn’t take them off until the last guest had left, sometime around nine. These seem like a great thing to have when you are on your feet all day, since the little bit of height really adds comfort to the shoes, and it really takes some of the pressure off the bottom of your spine (or at least, the bottom of my spine). Finally, a way to drink your coffee and be (sort of) tall too!
