Scuba diver's rare encounter with creature of the deep

A scuba diver encountered one of the world’s most rare fish during a dip in the Caribbean Sea.

Underwater footage recorded during a night dive at St Croix, on the US Virgin Islands, shows the incredible Short Nosed Batfish looking like a small alien.

Batfish are found in the waters around the Galapagos Islands, but unlike most of their cousins, the species are terrible swimmers. Instead, the rare creatures have learned to walk the ocean floor on their fins.
