Scribus for Mac review

Scribus for Mac is a free desktop publishing application that gives you a nice variety of tools you can use to complete all kinds of projects. Whether you choose to use one of the preloaded templates or create your own document from scratch, you'll find all of the features you're looking for in this efficient program.

Pros

Template options: This program comes loaded with plenty of document options to help you complete all kinds of projects. Whether you're creating Brochures, Business Cards, Cards, Newsletters, PDF Presentations, Packaging, or Posters, you'll have several templates to choose from. And many of these also indicate what type of information would be appropriate in certain spots more than a lot of other templates do.

Efficient interface: Once you've chosen a template and moved on to a working page, all the main tools you'll need are efficiently arranged across the top of the page. There are also measurement markings on all sides of the document window, so you can check your formatting and alignment with a glance as you work. The amount of technical information presented may be intimidating to inexperienced users at first, but once you get used to it, it all makes sense.

Cons

Ghostscript recognition: Certain features of this program, including the Print Preview and the ability to import EPS, require the installation of Ghostscript on your computer. However, even when you have this installed, the program can't always recognize it, and those features will continue to be unavailable.

Bottom Line

Scribus for Mac is a fluid and efficient way to create all kinds of documents. Whether you're using it for work or school, you'll find lots of tools to help you get the job done the way you want to. It's a completely free program, too, and even though you may have some trouble getting certain features to work, the overall experience of using Scribus is very positive no matter how much experience you have with this type of software.
