Six Flags' Colossus Roller Coaster Goes Up in Flames, Partially Collapses

The Colossus roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain has partially fallen down to the ground after going up in flames on Monday.

The iconic roller coaster was damaged after a fire ravaged its wooden structure. The Los Angeles County Fire Department was called to the park on Monday afternoon, and quickly contained the blaze that broke out while crews were working on the ride.

In a lucky turn of events, the 36-year-old roller coaster had been closed for 3-weeks for renovations. The plan was for it to reopen as a new ride, “The Twisted Colossus,” for the 2015 season.

In a statement, the park assured the public that this was an isolated incident. “There are no injuries and the fire is contained,” said Six Flags. “Colossus is currently undergoing a transformation and has been closed since Aug. 17.”

The park was closed on Monday as officials investigated the fire.
