Over the summer, Reese Witherspoon found inspiration in a rundown Southern mansion in Tennessee, scooping it up for $1.95 million with plans to restore it to its former glory.

Why not you? All over the country, stately homes of bygone days await renovation for a tenth of what Witherspoon paid. There are mansions in the Rust Belt that are slightly more move-in ready for those with bigger pockets.
