Jenny Craig's three-kitchen home seeks a whopping price

Here's one woman who knows how to gain by losing.

Weight-loss maven Genevieve Craig -- known better to the world as Jenny Craig -- has built an empire based on slimming down, but you wouldn't know it from the very outsize oceanfront home she's selling in Del Mar, California. It's by far the most expensive house on the market right now on less than an acre in San Diego County.

She's asking $39.5 million for the property, which has a five-bedroom, 8,000-square-foot house plus separate guest quarters on about three-quarters of an acre. Eighty-one feet directly front the sand. (Click here or on a photo for a slideshow.)

And, yes, it has enviable cooking facilities: not one, not two, but three kitchens. Besides the main house kitchen, there's a kitchen in the guest quarters and another chef's kitchen outside.

She has owned the property for about 30 years, records suggest. She and her husband, Sid, bought it not long after they established their weight-loss kingdom, based nearby. He died at the house in 2008.

Craig, who turns 82 on Aug. 7, has been mostly out of the public spotlight since a freak jaw injury in 1995 that left her unable to act as company spokeswoman. (A loud commercial startled her, and when she snapped her head back, she tore the muscles in her jaw.)  "In 25 years of practice, I have never taken care of someone who had lost so much and worked so hard to get it back," said Dr. Dennis Nigro, the physician who headed her grueling recovery, in a 2004 article in San Diego magazine.
