An Exclusive Clip from Michel Gondry's Swooning French Romance 'Mood Indigo'

Whimsical romance will endure as long as Michel Gondry is making movies. The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director tells a different kind of love story in his new movie Mood Indigo (on VOD now and in select theaters July 18), his surrealist fable about a Parisian man Colin (Romain Duris) whose world falls apart when the love of his life Chloe (Audrey Tautou) falls ill. That fateful moment is shown in this clip, which takes place right after the couple’s magical underwater wedding (as seen in the trailer).

The clip opens as Colin and Chloe are chauffeured to their honeymoon by Colin’s best friend Nicolas (Omar Sy). When they arrive at the scenic locale, they find that the weather is (to put it mildly) a little unpredictable. Fortunately, Nicolas has the gift of persuasion, and manages to book the newlyweds a room at a charming country inn. After much literal jumping for joy, the lovers collapse into each other’s arms, oblivious to the tiny snowflake that makes its way into Chloe’s lungs and changes their lives forever. The movie — which has fantastical scenes like the lovers riding a mechanical cloud over Paris — is based on the French novel of the same name by Boris Vian. “I had many visual ideas that I carried with me all those years, since I read [the book],” Gondry tells Yahoo Movies. “I wanted to incorporate them into the film, as a sort of flashback of my first memory of the book. Then there is this big struggle, because there are plenty of ideas that seem unachievable, and I sort of want to take on the challenge.”
