Jake Wood Admits He Hasn't Watched EastEnders Since He Left

Jake Wood has been a staple part of BBC One’s EastEnders for a whopping nine years, often involved in incredibly dramatic and high-profile storylines, so it’s no wonder that the actor decided that he needed a year-long break last year.

And even though Jake is set to make a triumphant return to Albert Square later this year, the actor has admitted that he hasn’t been watching the show since his departure.

BUT YOU’VE MISSED OUT ON SO MUCH BRILLIANT TELLY, JAKE.

We last saw his onscreen persona, Max Branning, being shipped off to prison for murdering Lucy Beale, despite the fact it was Lucy’s little brother Bobby who actually did the deed.

Viewers were outraged that poor Max was going to rot behind bars until Jake returned to the show, with many fans especially perplexed as so many characters - including his own daughter, Lauren Branning - knew that Bobby was the real murderer.

Thankfully, we don’t have too much longer to wait for justice to be served, with Jake confirming that he is going to start filming again in September - even if he does have a lot of catching up to do.

Speaking to Kugan Cassius on his iFL TV YouTube Channel, Jake explained: “I left in July and I haven’t watched an episode since I left. I needed a good break. I’ve done nine years without a break.

"I went up and saw them and said I was knackered and wanted a bit of time out. They’ve given me this summer off as well because I want to be with the kids and then it’s September I’m penciled in to go back.

"When I’m having this break now, I’m not watching it at all so I don’t know who’s doing what.”

Well, you might want to tune in next week, Jake, as your other onscreen daughter, Abi, is about to tell Ben Mitchell that she is preggers - and he’s having an affair with Paul Coker!

Executive producer for the show, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, previously insisted that Max would be returning to Walford, saying at the time of Jake’s break: “When I returned to EastEnders both Jake and I agreed that Max has been through so much over the past nine years that we would give both him and Jake a break when the opportunity arose.

"That opportunity has come and it is the perfect time to send Max Branning out with a bang that will send ripples through the Square for the rest of the year until Jake returns.”

Jake added: "I have been at EastEnders for nine years and I feel the time is right to give Max a break.

“But it won’t be for too long as I shall be back next year to see Max face another chapter of drama.”

We just hope that Max’s release means that dastardly Bobby’s actions are finally exposed…
