Road rage incident leaves man in hospital
One man is under arrest and another is in hospital in serious condition after an incident police say was provoked by road rage.
It happened just after 2 p.m. on the westbound side of the Charles-De Gaulle Bridge near Terrebonne, off the eastern tip of the island of Montreal.
Provincial police say it seems the two drivers were gesturing at each other — and then had a collision.
“The two men got out of their cars, on the bridge, and one violently hit the other one. He was hurt, unconscious and transported to hospital,” said Sûreté du Québec spokesman Gino Paré.
The victim, 36, remains in serious condition in a Montreal hospital.
The other driver, 33, was arrested and questioned at a police station. Paré says the driver may face charges of aggravated assault and dangerous driving.
“Unfortunately it’s the kind of situation we see too often on the highways — people who are involved in road rage like this,” Paré said.
The westbound side of the bridge was completely shut down for nearly three hours as police investigated the incident.
