Sources: Nets meet with Lionel Hollins again, could soon advance to contract talks
The Brooklyn Nets are meeting for a second straight day with top coaching candidate Lionel Hollins on Tuesday and could soon advance into contract negotiations should the ex-Memphis Grizzlies coach meet the approval of ownership, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Hollins met with Nets front office management Monday night in New York, general manager Billy King said Tuesday, and continued with meetings on Tuesday with members of owner Mikhail Prokhorov's group, sources said.
The Nets are moving swiftly to replace Jason Kidd, who left for the Milwaukee Bucks.
For now, the search is almost exclusively focused on Hollins' candidacy, sources said.
Hollins had been a strong consideration for the Nets when Kidd had gotten off to a sluggish start to the season and there was discussion about replacing Kidd in late December, sources said.
Hollins brings a strong playoff, disciplinary and defensive track record from his five years as the Grizzlies' coach from 2008-13. Hollins has interviewed for the Los Angeles Lakers' coaching vacancy and is still considered a finalist with leader Byron Scott, sources said.
