Dubai Court of First instance heard that the 44-year-old Emirati businesswoman had withdrawn Dhs35,000 from her bank account in December to pay her water and electricity fees, and also to renew the residency of one of the Indian housemaids.

The Emirati woman claimed she needed to pay Dhs20,000 in utility fees.

“I warned the housemaids not to use much water and electricity as the bill reached Dhs20,000. I woke up in the morning and asked for some tea to drink before I went to pay the bills,” the Emirati woman said in official records.

The court heard one of the maids brought her the hot drink, and 15 minutes later the woman felt drowsy.

“I woke up after four hours and the three housemaids weren’t in the house. I spoke with the fourth housemaid, who said after I went sleep she saw the defendants loading goods and bags in a trolley,” the woman added. An hour later, she discovered Dhs35,000 missing from her bag.

The employer said a large television and a mobile phone were also missing from the house. Police arrested one housemaid, while the other two are still at large.
The 27-year-old Indian housemaid pleaded not guilty to robbery.

The trial was adjourned until later this month.
