RenewData(R) Awarded Patent for Backup Tape Processing Technology

Technology, Which Provides "Single-Pass Processing," Significantly Reduces the Time and Cost of Backup Tape Extractions

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - Mar 24, 2014) - RenewData, a legal consulting and technology company with solutions that address the full spectrum of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM), today announced that it has been awarded patent number US 8,615,490 for its method and system for restoring information from backup storage media. This is the firm's third patent awarded in less than a year.

Compared to traditional methods of restoration, RenewData's enhanced technology thoroughly processes backup tape extractions in less time and with greater cost savings. The "single-pass" processing technology -- which accommodates all data types including software and email -- allows files that have been segmented across more than one backup tape to be read as a whole. This eliminates the need to process each tape in its original sequence or read tapes more than once. This unique technology also allows for the processing of tapes when the catalogue and/or tapes from a set are missing. And it provides a complete service that gathers information that other services may not identify. RenewData's technology overcomes typical tape/backup challenges to move the project or litigation forward efficiently and timely.

Since 2000, RenewData has been a leader specializing in non-native indexing, cataloguing, processing encrypted tapes non-natively and tape restoration of data from storage media. Innovative technology -- such as the technology exemplified by this recent patent -- has enabled the company to efficiently and effectively extract and process more than 200 petabytes of data.

"Our culture of innovation ensures that we are constantly improving our technology. These patents exemplify RenewData's commitment to providing market-leading technology to address the complex information management needs of today's corporate law departments," stated Hemanth Salem, Chief Operating Officer of RenewData.

In all, RenewData now holds 17 patents or patent applications that are focused on eDiscovery and information management. This patent is the fourth one awarded to RenewData since 2012. Recent patents include patent no. 8,150,827 B2 titled "Methods for enhancing efficiency and cost effectiveness of first pass review of documents," patent no. US 8,375,008 BI for the company's proprietary "Method and system for enterprise-wide retention of electronic data," and patent no. 11,349,570 for "System and method for management of retention periods for content in a computing system."
