Red Cross warns of dangers from fighting in Libya

GENEVA (AP) — Red Cross officials are urging combatants in several Libyan cities to protect the wounded and civilian populations safe from more fighting.

The International Committee of the Red Cross and the Libyan Red Crescent say they are concerned about continued fighting in the city of Sabha, areas such as Kufra and the outskirts of the capital Tripoli, where "scores of people have died or been injured since fighting broke out two weeks ago."

Ramy Saliba, the ICRC's head of office in Sabha, said in a statement Tuesday the wounded on all sides must be given immediate, safe access to medical treatment.

Saliba says some fighting has been near hospitals, and that all health care facilities must be protected at all times.
