Artist's plants are a living diary of every home she visits: Yahoo Homes' Flickr Focus of the Week

This week, for the launch of Yahoo Homes' Flickr Focus of the Week, we've been looking at the outrageously colorful homes, past and present, of artist Rachel Stuart-Haas of Shreveport, Louisiana.

She tells us she likes "the whole boho, eclectic, lots-of-plants-and-colors look." And indeed, plants do seem to be integral to her approach -- anything alive, really. "Other things I like are lots of candles and incense, and living things, like kids and pets. Yes, these things can be messy, but they really change the energy and make everything less stuffy."

Her most unusual tip helps make her home unlike any other. We'll let her describe it:

"One of my favorite things to do is take a clipping from a plant of every house I go to. This can be an awkward request if you don't know your host very well, but whatever. You'll end up with all kinds of wonderful plants around your house! I also walk down my street and ask neighbors for clippings of things. One very nice lady gave me all kinds of bulbs, and we ended up becoming good friends."

Click on the photo gallery to see how she incorporates plants throughout her home.

And stay tuned tomorrow and Friday, when we bring you a couple of her easy, cheap DIY projects and talk more about her red (gasp!) dining room and black (double gasp!) kitchen.

Here are the first installments of her home as Yahoo Homes' Flickr Focus of the Week:

• Monday: Audacious color defines this artist's home
• Tuesday: Amassing a 'slow collection' of art

More about Yahoo Homes' new Flickr Focus of the Week feature

Each week, we're going to select one Flickr user's home, work and/or project to feature on all five weekdays. Loosely, our plan is to start with a broad slideshow on Monday, then take slightly deeper dives into specific aspects of the Flickr user's photos on the successive weekdays.

We'd love your feedback and suggestions as this work in progress evolves. You can email us at yahoohomes@yahoo-inc.com. Or, if your questions are specific to one week's focus, leave questions and suggestions at the bottom of the blog posts. Yahoo Homes promises to keep a close eye on the comments section -- and sometimes, the person whose home or work we're featuring will also participate in the comments to answer your questions, too.

For future installments, we very much welcome your submissions at http://bit.ly/yahoohomesflickr. Toot your own horn or someone else's! This would be a fantastic opportunity to spread the word about a designer, contractor (before-and-after pictures would be fabulous), home stager, blogger, even perhaps real estate agent (maybe one who specializes in period properties?) -- anyone who does creative home-related work that can be illustrated in photographs. Just go to http://bit.ly/yahoohomesflickr to join Yahoo Homes' Flickr group and share photos; that's where we pull our photos from.
