Cell manufacturer Cellular Dynamics posts smaller loss in final quarter prior to its IPO

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Cellular Dynamics said Thursday it took a smaller loss in the second quarter as its sales picked up.

Cellular Dynamics International Inc. went public in July. It develops and manufactures functioning human cells in large quantities.

The company said it lost $5.1 million, or $2.92 per share, in the latest quarter after losing $6.2 million, or $3.58 per share, a year ago. Revenue rose to $2.8 million from $1.3 million.

That includes greater sales of its iCell human cells, and $170,000 in revenue from customized products sold under the name MyCell. That marks its first revenue from MyCell. Revenue from collaborations rose to $843,000 from $86,000.

Cellular Dynamics' initial public offering priced at $12 on July 24. The stock closed at $12.71 on Wednesday.
