Dec. 30: On Tiger Wood's birthday, a look at his major home project to save from sinking

What a wild ride Tiger Woods has been on since becoming the best professional golfer in the world, and then destroying his reputation through a series of affairs.

But it recently appears that Woods, who turns 38 today, turned things around. He’s in a solid relationship with Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, and has returned to golfing, taking home some international wins this past year.

In fact, perhaps the biggest troubles he had were with the mansion he shares with Vonn. In August, while he was at the PGA Championship in Rochester, N.Y. sinking putts, his Jupiter Island, Fla. home was also sinking—literally.

Woods first noticed the problem in his dining room, according to Fox Sports. He called in contractors to check out the problem and they found a gaping hole underneath the room. It appears that, thanks to soft soil underneath the sprawling, 10,000-square-foot estate, parts of the home were sinking.

Woods started remodeling his home before his divorce in 2010, with the intention of living there with his family. Even though things went awry when allegations surfaced of his extramarital affairs, he kept working on it, eventually moving in sometime in 2011.

And the work continued as contractors stabilized it late last year using giant screws called helical piles, saving it from being sucked into the earth.

The home, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, has a glass elevator, a huge wine cellar in the basement and a 3.5-acre backyard golf course that features four greens, six bunkers a video center and a putting studio, Woods wrote in his blog.
