Simon Cowell on Becoming a Dad: I Feel Good About It

Simon Cowell has finally addressed his impending fatherhood.

"The X Factor" creator attended the world premiere of "One Direction: This Is Us" on Tuesday, where he said he's looking forward to becoming a dad. This marked Cowell's first public confirmation that he is indeed having a child with New York socialite Lauren Silverman.

Simon told the BBC (via the AP) that "things are changing in my life right now, for the better," adding, "I'm proud to be a dad."

The 53-year-old also called Lauren "a very special girl" and added that while he hadn't thought of fatherhood before, "now I know I feel good about it."

At "The X Factor" Television Critics Association panel in L.A. on August 1, Cowell fielded questions about becoming a first-time dad.

"Unfortunately, I have to keep this for the moment private," he said when a reporter offered Cowell congratulations. "It's just one of those things. But thank you very much anyway."

Lauren Silverman is the soon-to-be ex-wife of Cowell's former friend, real-estate mogal Andrew Silverman. Exactly how long Simon and Lauren were having an affair and whether it overlapped with her marriage to Andrew (their relationship had reportedly been on the rocks for some time) has been speculated upon, although each party involved seems to have a different view of the situation.

Andrew and Lauren's divorce was finalized last week. They have one 8-year-old son together.
