Tattoos: Worst Fashion Trend of All Time

Tattoos deserve an award for "Worst Fashion Trend of All Time." Fashion trends have always been fleeting things. They come. They go. The remnants of our fashion folly are then packed in a box and stored in the attic or toted off to the nearest charity. Some day down the road will we wish we could do that with these tattoos? Just take that sucker off our neck and stick it in a box with those big-assed FUBU pants, the hair crimper, and the Ugg boots? Probably.

Why are tattoos the worst fashion trend of all time?

How long will it take for the fickle fates of fashion to declare tattoos as "so...yesterday?" It's inevitable, you know. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to walk away from this worst fashion trend of all time. Tattoos can't be hidden away in the attic with the remnants of your black hair dye and your Goth duds. They remain a lifelong testament to your fashion gullibility.

Worst Fashion Trend '" Tattoos on Old People

Have you heard the joke about the old woman with the butterfly tattoo on her breast that now looks like a dragon? Don't laugh. That old lady might be you in 40 years.

One indisputable fact is that your tattoos age right along with your skin. The inks can fade over time, especially on tattoos on those areas of your body exposed to sunlight. Everyone's skin loses both elasticity and moisture as it ages. That results in wrinkles and sags - hello dragon tattoo.

Many people find they put on an extra 20 or 30 pounds as they grow older. As skin stretches to cover the bulk, the fine lines and edges of your tat design may blur. Stretch marks from weight gain can literally destroy the look of your tattoo. Bottom line: there is absolutely nothing trendy or fashionable about old people with tattoos. It may be hard for you to imagine, but one of these days you will be old.

Tattoos Worst Fashion Trend on Unemployment Line

Although body art doesn't carry the social stigma it once did, there are still places where tattoos are not welcome. The workplace is one of those. It depends upon the job, of course. Your body art probably won't raise an eyebrow with the boss in a lot of blue-collar jobs. In offices, retail, or professional white-collar jobs where you are dealing face-to-face with the customer, many employers insist that all tattoos be covered up while you are on the job. If they are in a place that can't be logically covered by clothing, these companies will simply refuse to hire you. Fair or unfair - there it is. They run the company and they can set the rules.

Tattoos definitely deserve the award for worst fashion trend of all time. They are permanent, don't age well, and they could cost you a job you really wanted or needed. Hopefully, you won't come to regret that you have a tattoo (or five), like I regretted the Afro, sideburns, polyester shirts and bell-bottom pants of the 70's. I have almost no photos from the era because of that horrific fashion trend because I wisely destroyed all the evidence. Unfortunately, destroying the evidence of your ill-conceived fashion statement will leave a pretty nasty scar.
