Jagr Watch: Hurricanes, Sabres and Habs among Jaromir suitors, says report

Where will Jaromir Jagr end up playing?

Based on the postseason beard, our first guess has always been “in a Motorhead cover band.”

But the actual answer is, of course, where the money is best.

Jagr’s time with the Boston Bruins is at an end. The team initially wasn’t bringing him back, then flirted with the idea when Nathan Horton departed for free agency before filling their top six forward needs with Loui Eriksson and Jarome Iginla.

So Jagr’s back on the market, and a suitor that’s been interested in him before is kicking the tires: According to TVA Sports, the Montreal Canadiens and Jagr have “mutual interest” in having the 41 year old winger join the Habs.

Keep in mind that Jagr and center Tomas Plekanec were basically unstoppable as linemates in Jagr’s Kladno team during the lockout.

But if not Montreal, then where for Jagr?

Czech publication Lidovky.cz examined the derby on Monday and revealed that there’s mostly talk “about Montreal, Carolina, Ottawa and Buffalo.”

Some of that is speculation, but one could see the need for Jagr on the right side with the Ottawa Senators and certainly with the Carolina Hurricanes, who have a need on the right side. (Note: This lineup doesn't include Alex Semin, which is something that should have been stated upon linkage.)

The Buffalo Sabres are an interesting option in that they’re attempting to go younger and Jagr’s greatest asset later in this career has been leadership by example: His work ethic is umatched, including his commitment to training. Not a bad role model for a younger group, if that’s where GM Darcy Regier is going.

(And another reason why our pipe dream continues to be Jagr to the Edmonton Oilers, mostly for the orgasmic joy of watching him on that power play.)

We'd say Carolina seems like the best fit for Jagr, even if cap space is a little tight.

UPDATE: Jagr's agent calls the whole thing complete speculation, and that the Sabres haven't reach out to him.
