Dolly Parton and Katy Perry Join Forces at ACM Awards for Pop-Country Fun

Ever wondered what pop tart Katy Perry and country legend Dolly Parton have in common? The answer is: Absolutely nothing, except a shared larger-than-life aesthetic, a hearty appreciation of each others’ artistry… and a great ability to jibe together onstage.

The two divas paired up at the 51st annual Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday night for a rendition of Parton’s classic hits “Coat of Many Colors” (from 1971), “Jolene” (1973), and “9 to 5″ (1980). Not ones to disappoint their fans, both women dressed in over-the-top cowgirl outfits – Perry donned a fringed satin number in bright shades of pink and yellow, while Parton’s jacket glittered with an array of sequins (and many colors).

“I think maybe we’re cut from the same lamé,” joked Perry onstage, adding that Parton is her “personal hero” before joining the country star for the much-hyped duet. Parton recently told CMT that she considers Perry to be “an amazing artist and a beautiful girl.”

Perry pulled double-duty, presenting Parton with the Tex Ritter Award for Parton’s hit made-for-television movie, Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors.

The ACM Awards aired live on CBS from Las Vegas’s MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday, April 3. Chris Stapleton was the big winner of the night, collecting four awards in total.
