Dolly Parton And Carl Dean Are Renewing Their Wedding Vows

Dolly Parton has revealed that she and Carl Dean will be renewing their wedding vows to mark their 50th anniversary.

The iconic 70-year-old singer and her 73-year-old husband, who stays out of the spotlight, met at the Wishy Washy Landromat when Dolly moved to Nashville in 1964.

In 1966, they married in Ringgold, Georgia, with Dolly’s mother being the only one there as a witness.

On May 30, the couple will mark their 50th anniversary in a very special way, with the singer telling PEOPLE: “We’re going to get married again!

“I’ll have a beautiful wedding dress, ‘cause I didn’t have a big, long wedding dress when we got married and we’ve got a suit for him, so we’re going to dress up and take a bunch of pictures.”

Dolly is looking to sell those photos to raise money for her Imagination Library literacy charity.

Describing Carl as a ‘loner’, Dolly explained: “He doesn’t particularly care about being around anybody but me. He’s just always asked me to leave him out of all this. He does not like all the hullabaloo.”

She added that he’s ‘always been supportive’, and that he’s ‘like a brother and a father and a friend and a husband and a lover’ to her.
