One Direction boss Simon Cowell isn’t worried about Zayn Malik’s candid comments about the band since quitting in March 2015.

In an interview with Billboard magazine earlier this month, Zayn admitted he isn’t close to his former band mates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan. He also revealed he wasn’t a fan of their recent single Perfect.

Zayn told the mag, "I had every intention of remaining friends with everybody, but I guess certain phone numbers have changed and I haven’t received calls from a lot of people. I’ve reached out to a few of them and not got a reply. Certain people have pride issues, but it’s stuff you overcome in time.“ Ouch!

With Zayn’s debut solo album imminent and lots of promo on the horizon—including his first TV interview next week with Graham Norton—we couldn’t help but ask Simon if he’s worried what else the Bradford singer might say about the group.

Ever so blunt, Simon told Yahoo Celebrity: “I’m not interested in a single word he says, but I am interested in what he sings.”

As it happens, Simon has heard some of Zayn’s new music and he’s impressed!

Speaking at the London auditions for Britain’s Got Talent series 10 today (22 January), he added: “I’ve heard it, it’s good, he’s going to do well.”

Shifting his focus back to the remaining One Direction boys, who have now begun their hiatus, Simon told us he felt “emotional” watching the music video for their final single History.

“I just saw the video last night and, God, it makes you feel emotional. When that drops you’re going to see another lease of life for that record.

“I did get emotional watching it.”

AWW, you big softie!
