Despite 2015 being a pretty dramatic year for One Direction fans as a whole, it’s been pretty strong for ‘Larry’ shippers, with the fans who believe that Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson are secretly embroiled in a romantic relationship being treated to more evidence than ever before.
And that’s in spite of a certain pregnancy…
With Harry getting a little bit wild towards the end of 2014, dropping clangers such as “don’t knock it til you’ve tried it” when asked about sleeping with a man during a promo interview, we genuinely didn’t believe that the next 12 months could bring us any more Larry joy.
Boy, were we wrong.
2015 has seen the two boys interact more than ever before, with Lairport, AIMH, and Rainbow Bondage Bear all helping to sail the Larry ship across the stormy seas of this past year.
Which is why it probably comes as no surprise that Larry Stylinson was Tumblr’s most reblogged ‘ship’ of 2015, with Ziam and Narry also appearing in the top twenty.
Obviously we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate this fabulous news than by counting down the top 9 Larry moments of the year - please try to contain your feels, things are about to get emosh.
1. Lairport 1.0
Way, way back in February we almost fell off our seats when it transpired that Louis and Harry had traveled together, with no other 1D bandmate, for the first time in THREE YEARS.
The pair were spotted jetting to Australia from LAX airport following Harry’s 21st birthday celebration, with Liam and Niall flying out the day before and Zayn in the following days.
They were also papped flying together a few months later in June, but by that point so many other exciting things had happened that it didn’t reach the same level of excitement as this very first Larry moment of the year.
2. Louis Declaring His Love To Harry Passes One Million Retweets
Later on that same month, on Oscar night to be precise, something even more exciting happened: A 2011 Twitter love note from Louis to Harry passed one million retweets, making it the second most retweeted tweet in history.
Affectionately dubbed the ‘AIMH’ tweet, the sweet message reads: “Always in my heart @Harry_Styles . Yours sincerely, Louis”, the adorable declaration of love became iconic as it was sent out the day before Lou was papped with Eleanor Calder for the first time, the pretty brunette who became his long-term girlfriend.
Prior to this mass success, President Obama’s ‘Four more years’ tweet was the second most retweeted, with Larry overtaking and now sitting comfortably behind Ellen’s Oscar selfie with 1,639,367 retweets - wowzer.
3. That Coca-Cola Advert
Fast-forward to April and Coca-Cola had unveiled the most Larry Stylinson TV advert in history over in Argentina, with fans flocking to social media to point out the similarities between Louis and Harry and the two actors, with One Direction’s ‘Larry’ song, ‘Clouds’, also being a heavy feature in the minute-long clip.
We all waited with baited breath to see how the boys would react to the ad, and none of us were prepared for Louis’ response.
The notoriously Instagram-shy star simply shared a random photo of his and Liam Payne’s songwriting session, making sure that a bottle of Coca-Cola was nice and visible in the shot next to him.
Subtle.
4. Harry Wears His Blue Bandana
Later on that month, Louis was papped getting into a cab with a flurry of mystery girls following a pretty wild night out, hours later Harry was papped wearing a blue bandana around his neck in a rather questionable fashion statement.
Or was it a fashion statement?
Y’see, back in the Where We Are tour days, when Zayn Malik was still in the band and the dagger tattoo was just something that dreams were made of, One Direction fans launched the ‘Bandana Project’, which encouraged fans to wear a bandana representing their fave member to One Direction concerts.
Each member was assigned a colour and Louis fans were ordered to wear blue, with Harry rocking up to a gig with a blue bandana in full view just days later.
Harry went on to wear that bandana a few days later… And then again, and again, and again.
Ultimately he’d stopped wearing it by 2015, with this night marking the bandana’s first appearance in absolutely yonks and fans safely concluding that he had dug it out of the back of his sock drawer in retaliation to the Louis ‘mystery girl’ photos.
Interesting.
5. ‘No Control’ And ‘18′ Get Added To OTRA Setlist
In June all of our Christmases and birthdays came at once when the band fi-na-lly added both ‘No Control’ and ‘18′ to their OTRA Tour setlist.
Both tracks were Larry shipper favourites, with fans believing that the songs had been inspired by the two boys’ romance.
And with Ed Sheeran exclusively confirming to us that ‘18′ was indeed written about a One Direction relationship, what on Earth are we supposed to think?
6. Harry Wears ‘AIMH’ Tweet As A Flag
Days after ‘Lairport 2.0′, which is when Harry and Louis were papped getting off their Sweden-bound plane together, Harry borderline killed us all with one particular onstage antic.
Prancing around as the band performed in Sweden, Harry grabbed a flag from a fan in the front row and proceeded to dance around with it brandished around his shoulders like a cape.
The flag in question? Oh, only a screenshot of the aforementioned ‘AIMH’ tweet.
Stick a fork in us, we’re done.
7. THEY HELD HANDS
We woke up on a beautiful August morning and the sun wasn’t shining, birds weren’t singing, but Harry and Louis held hands at a meet and greet and we legit could not have been happier.
You probably won’t understand the significance of this unless you’d experienced the years of Louis and Harry’s extremely limited physical interaction, and the Internet more or less imploded when these photos were uploaded by a kind-hearted fan.
The fan in question was Sofia, who was granted a backstage pass to meet the boys via the Make-A-Wish foundation, and she was not messing around when her turn for a pic came around.
Politely asking the boys to stand in a particular order, the fandom hero then requested that they all hold hands for her pic - and the rest, as they say, is history.
8. Rainbow Bondage Bear
Throughout the year One Direction’s band mascot, Rainbow Bondage Bear, has been mysteriously appearing at some of their gigs, with it being confirmed that somebody close to the boys is the one dressing the bear and putting him out each night.
As the tour drew to a close, RBB’s outfits and props got more and more outrageous, with him appearing next to a framed photo of closeted star, Larry Grayson on one fateful night.
As the weeks went on he appeared next to photos of other gay, closeted men - including John Inman and Liberace, before setting up his own personal Twitter account and sharing photos from a drag show.
The bear continued to drop little hints about what is going on with the band behind the scenes, and it wasn’t long before eagle-eyed fans spotted what looked like Louis’ reflection in the bear’s sunglasses in one particular Twitter pic.
The boys were recently asked about the bear in an interview but denied all knowledge, although some say that Niall’s reaction of instantly swooping his head around to stare at Louis pretty much proved that he is the one behind the stuffed animal.
9. The. Hug.
They full on EMBRACED on stage.
They snuggled, they cuddled, they huggled.
