300 Square Feet, Sleeps 8: Tiny Home/RV Hybrid to Take Wherever You Go

Now this: a tiny home that trails you wherever you go, without all the work.

We’ve seen a lot of handmade tiny trailer homes that can be dragged around on the back of a truck, but this little guy comes premade—and it’s pretty fancy.

Part RV and part tiny home, the units have all of the utility and portability of an RV but none of the utilitarian aesthetics.

Both models of the Escape Traveler include a kitchen with full-size appliances, a dining and living area with a couch that pulls out to a double bed, an 89-square-foot loft (which fits a queen-size bed; a second bed can be added, or you can use the space for “attic” storage), a bathroom, built-in storage cabinets, and all the modern amenities you expect with an RV (hot water, plumbing, electricity hook-ups) as well as a number of off-grid features and options that allow true escape.

The base Traveler is 24 feet long, with 180 square feet of living space on the main level. The XL is 30 feet long, with 255 square feet on the main level, including a queen-size bedroom that’s separate from the living room. That means two couples can sleep on the main floor, and up to four people can sleep above. The XL living space totals about 350 square feet including the loft area.

Both are no more than 8.5 feet wide so they fit inside the painted lanes of a highway. They can be hauled by a pickup—a larger-size pickup in the case of the 13,000-pound XL.

The cost of these Travelers is much higher than the typical handmade tiny home, but it actually doesn’t differ much from your typical RV.

The standard Traveler starts at $64,500, the XL at $72,800. Of course, you can always pile on additional items that will jack up the price, but isn’t that the way it goes with real estate?

The “Limited Edition” XL, for example, comes with a fireplace and washer/dryer, all the furnishings, stainless appliances and big-screen TV—all of which gives you an idea of what is not so standard.
