Willow Skips Class to Climb Trees in ‘F Q-C #7’ Video

Willow Smith, 14, has been accused of growing up too fast, but she couldn’t appear more youthful in the music video that she co-directed for her self-produced song “F Q-C #7,” code for “Frequency Number Seven.”

In the performance sequence of the track, Smith appears as each member in a quartet – the singer, drum machine producer, snare drummer, and xylophone player, who all don a different color fashion forward culottes suit. The personas represent Smith’s chakras, her body’s energy centers. “Yellow is self-confidence, blue is my voice (song), red is my survival instinct, and the black is a combination of everything (the true me),” she wrote in an email to Fader magazine.

Elsewhere a face-painted Smith dances in a field, and in front of a graffiti-painted building while singing about skipping class to climb trees. Her voice is maturing beautifully with both power and a tinge of folk. She cites Girlpool, tUnE-yArDs, and Cree Summer among her inspirations for the song.

We admit Will Smith and Jada Pinket-Smith’s daughter is pretty talented and bright, but that’s no excuse for ditching school.
