Man Saws in Half His Neighbor’s (Allegedly) Encroaching Building

An incensed Norwegian man who believed a neighbor’s outhouse was encroaching on his land decided he’d just lop off the offending part while the neighbor was on vacation.

That’s one way to solve a property line dispute.

It’s also a great way to get charged with vandalism, as Arne Vigeland learned, thanks to what was just ruled his misinterpretation (oops!) of property boundaries on the ritzy island of Nesøya in Norway.

He faces a fat fine or up to six years in jail for destroying his neighbors’ outhouse, a building they used as a shed, while they were away on vacation in Spain last year.

Vigeland hired two workers who used crowbars, hammers and saws to cut down the portion of the outhouse jutting over his land, reports the Local Norway.

Then Vigeland dumped the debris all over his neighbors’ vegetable garden and strung a rope along the (supposed) property line, according to the Norwegian-language Budstikka.

He claimed the building was not a legal size, and he said it was sitting on land not legally his neighbors’, according to Norway’s VG newspaper.

The only problem: He was wrong. This month, after more than a year of legal wrangling, a judge disagreed with his assertion and indicted him on charges of aggravated vandalism, according to Budstikka.

This isn’t even the only time Vigeland has destroyed neighbors’ property in land disputes. He apparently removed a 65-year-old wall that he believed was on his property, as well as several trees and bushes that belonged to other neighbors. He’s also been fighting with neighbors over the use of a road, Budstikka reports.
