There is an eight kilogram difference from top weight to bottom weight in the Caulfield Cup.

Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist and Snow Sky lead the field with an impost of 58 kilograms. Japanese runners Fame Game (57kg) and Hokko Brave (55.5kg) are close behind. At the other end of the scale are Oaks winners Set Square (51kg) and Gust of Wind (51Kg). Winner of the Naturalism Stakes Magnapal (50kg) is the bottom weight.

Trainer Chris Waller has three runners in Royal Descent, Who Shot Thebarman and Grand Marshal.

The New Zealand and Australian Derby winner Mongolian Khan heads the betting market. His eye-catching run in the Caulfield Stakes has a lot of astute judges declaring him the winner. The Roger Charlton trained Quest for More will run in the Geelong Cup should it not gain a start as an emergency runner.
