If there’s anyone who knows what it’s like to be plucked from relative obscurity to be the face of a billion-dollar franchise followed ravenously by devoted fans, it’s Kristen Stewart. So when the former Twilight star says she’s got advice for Daisy Ridley, the new face of the Star Wars franchise, it’s coming from a place of experience.

“I did Twilight when I was 17. It came out when I was 18 and my life was never even remotely the same,” Stewart said on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast.

Though becoming Bella Swan was “a huge lifestyle shift” for Stewart, she acknowledged that plenty of good came out of it as well. Her whole career, for instance.

“A whole lot of other baggage — really heavy and really cool baggage — came along with it,” Stewart said.

While her every move has been scrutinized since she signed on for Twilight — there are the misogynist headlines about her relationships, her choices, whether or not she smiles enough — Stewart has been working with top talent in the industry since the franchise ended in 2012. There was last year’s Oscar-winning Still Alice and this year she has Oscar buzz for her performance in Clouds of Sils Maria, which already won her an Olivier Award (France’s Academy Awards) making her the first American actress to achieve such a feat. Her upcoming projects are films with Ang Lee, Woody Allen, and Olivier Assayas, the director or Clouds of Sils Maria.
